Budget flops, proposed tax hike slashed (The Brookfield Journal)

Following a huge referendum turnout that resulted in a 535-vote defeat, the Board of Finance has trimmed $1.553 million from the proposed municipal budget, reducing the tax increase from 7.1 to 3.8 percent as the town prepares for conversation on how it could deliver services "in a different way."

Harassment charge filed (The Brookfield Journal)

Richard Groski, a member of the Police Commission and the former boys' varsity basketball coach at Brookfield High School (BHS), has been charged with second-degree harassment, a misdemeanor, regarding alleged Internet harassment of his former assistant coach, Harry Shaker, who is a member of the Board of Education.

Senior center project to start (The Brookfield Journal)

The participants in the programs at the senior center will be moving for at least six months to a large space on Silvermine Road as renovations and a 2,300-square-foot addition are built at the facility on Pocono Road, which is expected to turn into one of the greenest buildings of its kind in Connecticut.
